Andrej: I haven't personally tried it but I've heard good things.

Beth: I'm sorry but that's not a feature I was specifically looking for, though it wasn't something that really stood out either. Syncing data with portable devices is usually a perk of pay software.

I've wanted an open-source project management system with a more intuitive interface for some time now. This semester, I have an Application Development class with a group project. My group project will be a Project Management System. I'll let everyone know when it reaches a decent level of maturity.

This is a little off-topic but since I've been searching for smaller Project Management programs I thought I would ask- do you know of any that are free, sync with an iPod or Blackberry and are more than just a calendar/to do list? iCal, and Sunbird aren't what I'm looking for, the next best program I've found is one called Essential PIM. Any suggestions?

I evaluated activeCollab some time ago - while it was still free. I was looking for a developer friendly solution for project management. I ended up going with Trac - great system IMO

I was disappointed too when I learned about activecollab sometime last year, but optimistic now about Project Pier and the progress they're making.
